Bridget and Ben – Tatton Park Wedding Photography

Tatton Park Wedding-75

I am so delighted to share the amazing wedding of Bridget and Ben, who married at the start of the 2018 heatwave. I was very excited about their day, not only to capture this super lovely couples big day, but to have the chance to shoot at the incredible Tatton Park in Cheshire.

Tatton is a place I had visited many times, but to have behind the scenes all access was amazing. We were so blessed with beautiful weather and a glorious golden hour on the day. Bridget and Ben had so many personal touches to their wedding, from the amazing decor in their wedding reception with little golden animal favours, to the amazing card box that Bridget made that looked like the venue! So clever. Bridget and Ben have very kindly written all about their day for me, and have shared some great advice, so over to them….

Where did you meet?

We met at university up in Aberdeen. It’s a funny story, we were in the same class for twelve months and didn’t even know each other existed until we were introduced at dinner at a mutual friend’s house. Even then we didn’t start dating for a couple of years – at least we were sure when we finally did!

The proposal

Ben proposed in Edinburgh over a beautiful breakfast in the little flat I lived in during my postgrad. It was super low key, exactly what I wanted, and once I’d stopped happy crying (and said yes!) we went for a walk and Ben suggested we go to our favorite pub for lunch. This is where the low key ended – our parents and siblings were waiting in the pub for us to celebrate – everyone was in on it except for me!!

Wedding planning

We didn’t want a long engagement so we had just around 12 months to plan. There were a few things we were sure of – that we wanted to get married at my family church, and that we wanted to invite a lot of people. Once we booked the reception venue, everything sort of fell into place. We couldn’t have done it without our families though – both Mum’s threw themselves into wedding planning with enormous enthusiasm, sorting everything from flowers to favours.

What was the most memorable part of your day?

It’s so hard to choose, but one of both of our favorite parts was driving from the church to the venue. We borrowed Ben’s Dad’s sports car and drove ourselves – it was lovely having the time to ourselves straight after the ceremony.

The Venues

Having a church ceremony was really important to me, so our family church was the obvious answer. It was much harder to pick a reception venue that we loved, and also that was the right size. We were quite keen on a National Trust property; early in our relationship one of the first things we did together was buy a membership (wild!). The moment we walked into the Tenant’s Hall at Tatton we knew it was the right place – it’s a beautiful room and the walls are lined with taxidermy – perhaps not everyone’s first choice, but we both studied Zoology at university and it was perfect for us!

Any advice for future couples wedding planning?

Stick to your guns and have the day you want, but also don’t sweat the small stuff – it will be perfect! And prep for hot weather if there’s even the slightest chance. We had every other weather eventuality covered, except for the start of the heatwave. It was HOT.

The Suppliers

We were very DIY, but the suppliers we had were brilliant. PanPan Bridal in Edinburgh gave the perfect dress shopping experience, and Scotland Shop were great handling a huge order of men’s trews and various accessories. Laura-Louise Make Up Artist was wonderful, a real calming influence in the run up and on the day of, and everyone looked beautiful. The Tatton Park event’s team were exceptional, as of course, was Lucy ?
