Tower Hill Barns Wedding Photography – Julia and Mark

Julia and Mark

We met when we worked together at a Harvester restaurant in Nottingham in 2013. I (Julia) had finished uni but wasn’t quite ready to move home, what a good decision that turned out to be! In August 2018 we planned a camping trip, Mark had bought me a tent for the Christmas before. We headed up to the Lakes with our dog Alby and Mark had a number of places circled on the map as options for us to visit whilst we were away, little did I know they were beauty spots he had researched to pop the question! On the first day we went for a walk that led to a beautiful bridge over a stream, there was another family there playing. We stayed for about an hour, I thought we were just enjoying the view but little did I know that Mark was waiting for them to leave! Eventually he gave up and we left. The next day we headed to Aira Force Falls, a beautiful place with waterfall after waterfall. As it was summer it was quite busy, we had stopped for a picnic and walked the full route and then we were headed back when suddenly we hit a quiet spot. I was walking ahead and Mark spun me around for me to find him holding out a ring box. It was just me, him and our dog – it was perfect!

Wedding planning

I loved wedding planning, Pinterest was my best friend! As I have photographed a few weddings myself I had a few ideas of what I did and didn’t want. The venue was definitely the most difficult part for us but once we had chosen everything seemed to just fall into place! We knew we wanted quite a relaxed wedding and I think our planning reflected that, nobody knows what your wedding plans are, so if it doesn’t quite work out nobody else knows anyway!

The venue

This bit was tricky. I grew up going to church on the Wirral but there just weren’t any Wirral venues that were right. I didn’t want a venue that I had photographed at as I wanted it to feel like ‘ours’ and we also didn’t want anywhere that close friends had got married. We started to look a little further and we went to see Tower Hill Barns and we just fell in love. The compromise was that we couldn’t have the church wedding as we just felt it was too far to travel between, but we truly have no regrets, it was just the perfect day! Tower Hill Barns is just the most incredible venue and our guests are still talking about it months later! From a planning perspective the staff are incredible and really can’t do enough for you, we truly do feel a part of the THB family now!

The most memorable part of the day

That is SO hard to pick, every single aspect of the day was just perfect, having all of our family and friends with us was everything we had dreamed off. I think possibly for me walking down the aisle to see all of our guests, with Mark stood at the end waiting for me – that was unforgettable!

Outfits
I absolutely LOVED my dress but… It was originally a strapless dress but I knew I wanted straps, I found some beaded straps online that my seamstress added and they looked gorgeous BUT my veil kept catching on them! Just something to consider if you’re making any alterations, make sure they work with the whole outfit!

For suits Mark went for a maroon suit with the rest of his party in blue. When he first had the idea I wasn’t sure but it was actually so nice, something a little bit different but still looked classy, don’t be afraid to be a bit different!

Advice for future couples wedding planning.

Try not to over think it, I put quite a lot of effort into hand making little details and I’m personally glad I did because I loved them, but I know nobody else will have noticed! So don’t let the little things stress you out, when it comes to the day it goes so fast, all you’re focus will be on having the best time with family and friends
