The Next Step
So I now had sample albums, business cards and all the bits and bobs necessary for a stall at a wedding fayre, so all I had to do now was book a stand! Easy enough? No.
I started to call and email around to find a local wedding fayres to book a stand in cheshire and Herefordshire. This proved to be a little tricky, I soon learnt that fayres got booked up for photographers really quickly! I eventually found a few that has space for a photographer but they where not for 6 months.I found most of the information about wedding fayres on this website, All Wedding Fayers.
I didn’t give up I kept trying, all the fayres on the list, I rang around a few more companies and eventually I got lucky, I managed to book a fayre in place of a photographer who had cancelled. I had 5 days to get everything together! I spent this time rushing around getting everything printed, framed and sorted. But soon enough Sunday came around and the car was pack and I was on my way to Chester.
Throughout my life, I have never suffered with nerves, Exams, coursework, school, uni, work, I wasn’t nervous ever. But when it come to this wedding fayre I was a mess. I was a big bag of useless nerves, I am not really sure why, I think it is because I was putting my self out there my business my love, passion and hard work up against other photographers and in front of other companies. I was terrified I would look unprepared and inexperienced. I had, had 4 years experience photographing lots of weddings but so far not running a business. A lot of my wedding bookings came kindly through another company who I had worked with previously, and felt I fitted their brand. Check out Your Hand in Mine.
So on the morning of my first wedding fayre I arrived at Oddfellows in Chester, in a big mess. But luckily the lovely Eddie (see previous post )was with me and told me to go away and chill out and he would set up for me! This gave me time to park the car and calm my self down.
When I came back, the stand look lovely and everyone else their was welcoming and helpful. I didn’t look unprepared at all, and it was great seeing all my hard work laid out, on display for everyone to see. I wasn’t nervous at all about talking to future brides and grooms infact this is one of the parts of my job I love (the other part is the actual photography.) I love love love hearing about peoples plans and how they met. It makes me feel all warm inside! There really wasn’t anything to be nervous about I spent the day talking to lovely couples and vendors, and left with a big smile on my face!
Here is Eddie and I at the stand (apologies for the awful photograph from my phone! )
The fayer was also featured on this blog. See if you can spot me. (Photographs bellow by The Wedding Review site).
So that was that, I had officially started the ball rolling!! 😀
